Friday’s NCAA opening day revealed some early talents right out of the gate. The early on-ramp of pitchers are intriguing, as day one concluded. This showcase of arms was topped by a left-hander out of Tennessee; Liam Doyle.
Doyle is in his junior year of college baseball. He started in the NCAA in 2023 as a freshman. He was a part of Costal Carolina in the Sunbelt Conference. He then jumped ship to the notorious Southeastern Conference (SEC), playing his sophomore year for Mississippii.
This year, Doyle stayed in the SEC, moving over to Tennessee. His debut was one for evaluators to keep detailed notes on.
Liam Doyle: February 14th, 2025 vs Hofstra - Evaluation Report
The southpaw came out loose, relaxed, and confident on the bump. His delivery was consistent and aggressive. Doyle delivered with conviction and complete trust in his abilities and control.
Command was key for Doyle in this outing. His slider and off-speed was used selectively and effectively. His fastball was placed well, elevated when called upon and heated up as the game moved on. In the second inning, Doyle struck out the side: slider, fastball, fastball was the sequence.
The second inning was a strong repeat. Doyle struck out the side again, with fastball swinging to batter one, fastball swinging to batter two, and fastball looking to batter three; all right-handed batters.
Doyle also forced a few flyouts, and a few groundouts. He did not allow any runs and only one hit in this outing. He also struck out a blazing 11 batters with no walks. Doyle improves to 1-0.
Key Scouting Notes (DOYLE, Liam):
Fastball command on point and consistent
Off-speed used when needed; effective
