Starting pitcher for the Charlotte 49ers, Blake Gillespie has been executing impeccably off the mound to start the 2025 NCAA college baseball season. Gillespie is in his junior year, competing in the American Athletic Conference.
Background
Gillespie started as a freshman at Georgia State in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). He only saw 11 and 2 / 3 innings that year allowing 18 hits, 19 earned-runs, and facing 60 batters. His sophomore year held 7 and 1 / 3 innings.
Gillespie took a transfer to Charlotte here in his junior year, where he will be draft eligible.
2025 Player Performance Update: Gillespie, RHP
Gillespie has started strong in the AAC in seven starts. He’s sitting at a .500 win-loss percentage with a 3-3 record. Gillespie has pitched 43 and 2 / 3 innings so far this season.
He’s faced 173 batters, allowing 35 hits, 19 earned-runs, six home runs, seven walls, and 58 strikeouts. On the seventh of March, Gillespie pitched a strong nine innings striking out 11 hitters, only walking one, and allowing no runs. He finished for a huge win and a no-hitter, the second in school history.
On the 21st, Gillespie pitched a strong eight innings allowing two earned-runs, no walks and 13 strikeouts. The right-hander has been controlling the zone, commanding his offerings well, and working his pitches effectively.
His dominance has emerged, and the aggressive approach to hitters has brought him success, carving up counts and sitting key bats in the opposing lineups.
