Game two of the 2025 World Series was a pitchers duel between the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers in Toronto. The Jays sent Kevin Gausman to the mound against Dodgers gold standard lineup.
This matchup sent two very regular-season dominant pitchers to try and tame two very heavy hitting lineups. Both pitchers have also done wonders in their 2025 postseason run.
Gausman has been very contributing to the Blue Jays, and is labeled the ace arm of the staff. There was no better option to go nose to nose with top shelf hitters.
World Series: Blue Jays game two starter Kevin Gausman
Gausman pitched very well to mark his World Series debut against a power-house Los Angeles offense. His first inning of work gave the Dodgers some life, as Freddie Freeman hit a double, later scoring on a Will Smith single.
Gausman’s early-game approach to Dodgers big-bats was very low-key with pitch exposure until the time came to show his junk. He had a three-pitch meeting with Shohei Ohtani, forcing a fly-out to lead off the game, as well a Mookie Betts fly-out, and Teoscar Hernandez strikeout.
Gausman went five innings without allowing any runs or hits, retiring 17 straight Dodgers bats, until the 7th inning where things got spicy. When I say “spicy”, I mean two runs on two hits, to bring the score to 3-1.
Gausman was dealing, as he utilized his four-seam fastball and located this pitch well, throwing it 49 times, with only four sliders, and 29 splitters. The fastball has good run, working into right-handed batters, and working off the zone.
Gausman missed his spot on a 3-2 offering to Will Smith, who took him deep on a middle-in fastball at 94 mph. Following this was a Max Muncy home run in the same pitch location. The 7th inning was it for Gausman.
With the exception of those two mistakes, Gausman located the splitter very well, staying out of the zone. Within all of his pitches, Gausman 45 pitches in the zone, and 37 pitches out of the zone.
Gausman finished his World Series outing with a line of 6 and 2 / 3 innings pitched, 4 hits, 3 earned-runs, 6 strikeouts, 2 home runs, 82 pitches, and 59 strikes. The Blue Jays dropped this game 5-1.
