The Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees squared off for game two of opening weekend in the Bronx at Yankee Stadium. Toronto snagged a win in game one in shutout style in the Yankees home opener.
The Jays sent ace right-hander Kevin Gausman to the mound against Yankees right-hander Clarke Schmidt. With a non-existent offense last night, the bombers came out heavy-handed with the lumber, shelling Gausman in the first two innings of work.
In the bottom of the first, Aaron Judge launched a shot 425 feet to left-center field to put New York on the board, scoring Juan Soto for a quick two runs. In the same inning, Giancarlo Stanton pushed an oppo-shot for a solo bomb, putting the Yankees up 3-0. The bottom of the second offered some run support for the Yanks with a Torres sacrifice fly to score Anthony Volpe, followed by Wells scoring on a passed ball and Cabrera scoring on a Soto single.
After a Vladimir Guerrero Jr home run in the 7th and a short ralley in the top of the 9th by the Blue Jays, it forced the Yankees to summon closer Clay Holmes. Holmes picked up the save.
