2025 World Series: Blue Jays Yesavage Took the Mound

World Series game one  took place in Toronto, Ontario, Canada for the first time in 32 years; the first time outside the United States in 32 years. The heavy-built Los Angeles Dodgers took on the Toronto Blue Jays; rookie Trey Yesavage took the mound. 

Yesavage has been in great command of his outings so far. He started the year in single-A in the minor leagues, working his way to the big leagues, and appearances in the American League Division Series where he shut down the Yankees. 

He also saw mound time in the American League Championship Series, where his elite side continued to flourish. Yesavage’s overall composure and performances earned him to be World Series game one starter.

World Series: The Blue Jays Rookie versus the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game One of the Fall Classic 

The Blue Jays rookie took the mound in front of 44,353 fans, with multiple nations across the world watching, and top watched media. He was faced with a dangerous Dodgers lineup. 

How did Yesavage look? Overall he was composed with a hint of nerves peaking. His first batter of the game would be against the best player in the game, Shohei Ohtani. The right-hander’s World Series debut began with a five pitch strikeout against Ohtani. 

Yesavage sequencing was going to be what he needed to succeed; specifically the use and effectiveness of his slider and splitter.

Yesavage threw 80 total pitches, throwing more fastballs than both off-speed options, at 38. He threw 10 splitters, and 32 sliders 

His overall command wasn’t the greatest in this outing, compared to the dominant starts he usually has. 31 pitches were in the strikezone, 49 pitches were out of the zone, with 20 pitches on contact. He threw 44 strikes total. 

His overall command was off, and the splitter did not work as well. Yesavage did not have his best stuff but he was competitive enough to keep the team in the game. He final line displayed:
